To V hay V-ing, phân từ -ing và -ed trong TOEIC
Động từ theo sau bởi to V hoặc V-ing, V-ing sau giới từ, các cụm có to là giới từ, phân biệt interesting và interested, kèm bài luyện.

"We look forward to hear from you" là lỗi người Việt viết email hay gặp nhất, và cũng là câu Part 5 rất hay ra. Bài này gom ba nhóm điểm ngữ pháp liên quan đến dạng của động từ: động từ theo sau bởi to V hay V-ing, V-ing sau giới từ, và tính từ đuôi -ing hay -ed.
Động từ + to V
Thường là các động từ hướng về tương lai: muốn, định, hứa, quyết định.

Động từ + tân ngữ + to V: ask, tell, advise, encourage, require, remind, allow, permit, enable, invite, urge, expect. Ví dụ: The manager encouraged us to share our ideas. The new system enables staff to work remotely. Ở dạng bị động: Staff are encouraged to… (xem bài câu bị động).
Động từ + V-ing

Động từ đổi nghĩa theo to V hay V-ing

V-ing sau giới từ
Sau mọi giới từ (in, on, at, for, of, about, by, without, before, after…), động từ phải ở dạng V-ing:
- Thank you for choosing our hotel.
- She is interested in applying for the job.
- You can save money by booking early.
- Before leaving the office, turn off the computer.
Bẫy: "to" là giới từ
Trong các cụm sau, to là giới từ, nên theo sau là V-ing, không phải V nguyên mẫu:

Phân từ làm tính từ: -ing hay -ed?
- -ing: gây ra cảm xúc, mô tả bản chất của vật hoặc việc: an interesting presentation, confusing instructions, disappointing results.
- -ed: người cảm thấy: I'm interested. The customers were disappointed.
- Với danh từ chỉ vật: -ing nếu vật tự làm (a growing market, rising costs, the remaining items), -ed nếu vật chịu tác động (a revised schedule, attached files, limited time, experienced staff).
